Liberty’s CEO, Ron Gusek, took the stage at the EnerCom Denver 2025 Conference, the premier independent investor event for the oil, gas, and broader energy industry. For 30 years, EnerCom has provided energy professionals and investors a unique opportunity to hear directly from senior management teams about strategies to drive growth, fund operations, generate cash flow, and create stakeholder value.

Ron’s presentation, titled “Liberty: Engineering the Energy Future,” highlighted Liberty’s legacy and ongoing role in the shale revolution. Reflecting on the company’s journey, Ron said, “Couldn’t have imagined the journey that we would have found ourselves on over the next 15 years. And we started out with a very, very simple mission at Liberty, and that was to build the best damn frac company, period. I don’t know how many of you follow the Kimberlite survey, but the results for this year just came out. And I think now for eight years in a row which is maybe as long as the Kimberlite survey has happened, Liberty has been ranked the number one frac company in the United States. And so, I’m incredibly proud that we have successfully accomplished the goal we set out to achieve.”

He also emphasized the importance of people and culture at Liberty, which are at the center of everything we do, explaining, “Of course, we’re very people intensive. You can see we have a little more than 5,500 employees today. If you could create a culture where people would want to come and stay and make a career of it, particularly out in the field, we believed you could do differential things, you could deliver a differential offering that was unrivaled in the space. And so, that was our whole goal from the very outset, was to create an environment where particularly those staff that are at the tip of the spear, the folks that are running the pumps, the blender, the hydration unit who are doing equipment maintenance, the e-techs and the mechanics, would want to come and stay, and not just stay for a while, but to stay for their career. And that if we could accomplish that, amazing things would happen.”

During the keynote, Ron also described Liberty’s approach to operational control and technology: “We made a very, very conscious decision as we launched the digi platform to get into the CNG business. We own our own compression facilities in both here in the DJ and down in Texas. We own our own trucking fleet to deliver that CNG to the field. We own the equipment to distribute that gas to our equipment on location. We own gas processing equipment for when we are going to use field gas. All of that with the goal of ensuring that we can execute at the highest level that our pumps are getting the – not only the volume of fuel, but at the right conditions, at the – and with the right quality to ensure successful execution.”

Ron also highlighted Liberty’s strategic growth beyond fracturing, including international expansion and the launch of a power business, part of Liberty Power Innovations. “Power generation co-located with an asset offers you a very, very different opportunity. Once the capital’s invested and presuming we have control over the fuel supply which we certainly do from a midstream standpoint, there is a real opportunity to provide long-term surety around the price of power generation, and it’s certainly at a price that could be very, very competitive with the grid today, and I would argue highly competitive with the grid five years from now. And so, I think this offers a very, very long-term, compelling proposition.”

His presentation highlights Liberty’s commitment to innovation and leadership in shaping the future of energy.

Liberty’s Leen Weijers joined the opening panel at the 2025 Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) in Houston. The session, titled “Shaping the Future: Leveraging Technology Innovation and Championing Sustainable Development in Unconventional Resources,” brought together leaders from across the industry:

  • Dan Pickering – Pickering Energy Partners

  • Thaimar Ramirez – Midland Basin Business Unit, OXY

  • George Koperna – Advanced Resources International (ARI)

The panel was moderated by Ali Sloan of Core Geologic.

Below are a few key points made during the panel session:

  • George Koperna explained, some of the technology that drove the start of the shale revolution was first developed with R&D money following the Arab Oil embargo in 1973. That investment has gone a long way for dividends toward U.S. energy independence.
  • More recently, the industry has gone beyond the momentum for cost reduction. Thaimar Ramirez with Occidental highlighted reuse of produced water for fracturing and other purposes that make us better neighbors.
  • Dan Pickering assessed that the US unconventional industry will likely face some headwinds as price-sensitive barrels may be temporarily pushed out of the market by relatively price-insensitive barrels. It is a blessing and a curse that US barrels are responsive and relatively easy to add or remove from market.
  • But remember, there is always a silver lining. While cheaper barrels may not be as desirable for us in the short term, our industry always adapts and improves through the cycle. Lower oil prices are great for consumers; expand use of our products toward more people who really need it; make the energy we produce more competitive with other energy sources; and, extend the future runway for oil and gas.

Mike Brady, Vice President of Power Generation Execution at Liberty Power Innovations, recently participated in the Bisnow DICE National, a premier three-day summit focused on the future of digital infrastructure.

Brady spoke on a panel titled “Mission Critical – Solving the Data Centers Power Problem” alongside industry leaders:

  • David Bell, VoltaGrid

  • Will McCausland, PowerHouse Data Centers | AREP

  • Jennifer Ruch, Oracle

  • Scott Worley, Stabilis Solutions

The panel was moderated by Toyebi Adedipe of Hitachi Energy.

As the data center industry experiences unprecedented growth, energy consumption is projected to double by 2030. The panel explored the urgent need for increased power capacity—at larger scales and with faster time-to-compute. Traditionally, data centers have depended on grid-based power, which has been challenged by the speed of power growth from generation to transmission. The discussion asked a timely question: Are we at a turning point where newer, onsite energy solutions are ready to take the lead?

Brady contributed Liberty’s perspective on how innovative, scalable power systems can help meet the sector’s evolving demands, particularly as speed, reliability, and sustainability become critical to data center operations.

A few key points he shared:

  • He emphasized his opinion that private industry is likely better equipped to handle the rapidly changing load variability challenges of AI than the traditional grid.

  • He noted that the desire for control over power delivery isn’t new. For decades, firms have considered investing in their own power, but the capital cost was often too steep compared to simply paying more for grid power. Today, companies like Liberty—and the colleagues Brady joined on stage—are willing to make those long-term investments on behalf of clients.

  • The panel also discussed the push for more renewable power. Brady pointed out that natural gas serves as a strong bridge to a long-term renewable buildout and can either transition to a backup role or remain as primary power, depending on the application.

DENVER – Western Energy Alliance will honor Chris Wright of Liberty Energy, Inc., with the Wildcatter of the Year award in recognition of his achievements in community service and business. Wright has demonstrated success as a data-driven, technology-focused energy entrepreneur and dedicated humanitarian who has educated policy and community leaders around the world on the benefits of energy. As the 37th recipient of the Wildcatter award, he will be formally celebrated by leaders in the oil and natural gas industry at the Wildcatter gala on Saturday, November 5th.

“The world today is in the depths of a man-made energy crisis, the impacts of which are felt by the poorest individuals. What sets Chris Wright apart is his unceasing love for people facing these challenges,” said Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Alliance. “Chris has dedicated his life to advocating on their behalf and has spent the past three decades building oil and natural gas companies to provide the resources humanity needs to thrive. He has demonstrated a commitment to meeting people on their own terms, including traveling to small villages around the world, to learn about their needs and hopes for bettering their lives. Inspired by their stories, he’s been a dedicated advocate who has given them a voice before business and government leaders in order to advance policies that will improve their lives. Chris was selected for this award by his peers because he has leveraged tremendous business success into humanitarian action with a truly global reach.”

In 2010, Wright co-founded Liberty Resources, a Bakken focused E&P, and today serves as executive chairman. In 2011, Wright founded Liberty Energy to provide completion services to the Bakken basin in North Dakota and has since served as chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman of the board. The company has become the second largest fracturing services company in the world, and in 2018 Wright took Liberty through an initial public offering. Under his management, Liberty has become renown as a technology leader. In 2016, Wright and his team debuted the state-of-the-art Quiet Fleet to address elevated noise levels, dust, and truck traffic associated with hydraulic fracturing.

Wright has been a pioneer and recognized leader in driving an environmentally conscious approach to hydraulic fracturing. In 2021, he began publishing an annual Bettering Human Lives report that focuses on the importance of oil and natural gas in the modern world and documents Liberty’s environmental social, and governance (ESG) achievements. The report covers the critical link hydrocarbons play in geopolitics, food, and enabling the modern world.

Prior to Liberty, Wright founded Pinnacle Technologies and served as CEO from 1992 to 2006. Pinnacle created the hydraulic fracture mapping industry and its innovations helped launch commercial shale gas production in the late 1990s. Subsequently he was chairman of Stroud Energy, an early shale gas producer, before its sale to Range Resources in 2006.

Equally impressive is Wright’s contributions to the community. He serves on the board of numerous nonprofits including the Alliance for Choice in Education (ACE) Scholarships in Colorado and Montana, Pacific Research Institute, Property and Environment Research Center, and the Yellowstone Club Community Foundation. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Federal Reserve Bank, Denver Branch, and is a current member of Western Energy Alliance’s Board of Directors.

He has spoken on energy and the merits of the Shale Revolution to the United Kingdom’s House of Lords as well as with federal and state lawmakers across the United States. He completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduate work in Electrical Engineering at both the University of California, Berkeley, and MIT.

About the Wildcatter of the Year Award

The title Wildcatter of the Year is reserved only for the most prominent leaders in the western oil and natural gas industry whose entrepreneurial and exploratory spirit have contributed significantly to America’s energy security and the betterment of society. The term “wildcatter” originates from the 1880s when independent speculators ranged across the West in hopes of discovering new or unproven oil reserves. The Wildcatter of the Year is not only a leader in industry, but a role model in the community as well, demonstrating leadership both on and off the oilfield.
