The session, titled <em data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"485\">&#8220;Shaping the Future: Leveraging Technology Innovation and Championing Sustainable Development in Unconventional Resources,&#8221;<\/em> brought together leaders from across the industry:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"710\">\n<li data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"587\">\n<p data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"587\"><strong data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"557\">Dan Pickering<\/strong> \u2013 Pickering Energy Partners<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"646\">\n<p data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"646\"><strong data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"609\">Thaimar Ramirez<\/strong> \u2013 Midland Basin Business Unit, OXY<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"710\">\n<p data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"710\"><strong data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"667\">George Koperna<\/strong> \u2013 Advanced Resources International (ARI)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"712\" data-end=\"770\">The panel was moderated by <strong data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"752\">Ali Sloan<\/strong> of Core Geologic.<\/p>\n<p>Below are a few key points made during the panel session:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">George Koperna explained,\u00a0<\/span>some of the technology that drove the start of the shale revolution\u00a0was first developed with R&amp;D money following the Arab Oil embargo in 1973. That\u00a0investment has gone a\u00a0long way for dividends toward U.S.\u00a0energy independence.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">More recently, the industry has gone beyond the momentum for cost reduction. Thaimar Ramirez with Occidental highlighted reuse of produced water for fracturing and other purposes that make us better neighbors.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">Dan Pickering assessed that the US unconventional industry will likely face some headwinds as price-sensitive barrels may be temporarily pushed out of the market by relatively price-insensitive barrels. It is a blessing and a curse that US barrels are responsive and relatively easy to add or remove from market.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_p1\"><span class=\"x_s1\">But remember, there is always a silver lining. While cheaper barrels may not be as desirable for us in the short term, our industry always adapts and improves through the cycle.
